Sonoma Lake

Sonoma Lake CA,  December 2014 – under the lookout point we spied an easily walkable pathway and out adventure into the forest began. Well right after Sanaa assumed the Legend of Kora, I come to save the world position.

Long before there was any formal declaration of a state of emergency in relation to California’s drought evidence of the receding waterline was apparent at the Sonoma Lake reservoir. Case in point, the waters at Sonoma Lake are normally found to be pristine and blue, however, on this particular trip to the lake we were greeted with muddy waters. This, quite frankly reminded me of a trip to Hong Kong I made almost 20 years ago. The difference between the water at the Sonoma Lake and the shallow waters the ship I was attached to transited through during a port visit to Hong Kong was the absence of a foul stench to greet us at the lake.

While the waters may have dropped drastically we were undeterred in our quest for an awesome hike. I must say we weren’t disappointed. The trail under the redwood watchtower lead into and appropriately overgrown forest. As we walked along the winding trail we breathed in the crisp moist air and found ourselves surrounded by moss covered trees. We found scattered clusters of mushrooms. She loved the thought that tiny flying people could be using the mushrooms as lounging chairs as they have Fairy festivals at night. But I digress

Off to begin our little excursion into the forest and along the trail…

The little cluster of mushrooms we are sure will be some fairies resting cushion soon as the lights dim and the people disappear.
